Why choose a product containing cricket powder?

Because cricket flour is actually cricket powder, it does not contain starch and is a superfood with many benefits. Our products, made with cricket powder, are a source of protein and fiber, they have a high content of vitamin B12 and contain vitamins and minerals. Cricket powder also contains chitin, a fiber that promotes good bacteria in the gut and helps reduce inflammation in the body. In addition, our protein foods are a great eco-friendly alternative to meats like beef.

Is it safe for humans to consume crickets?

Crickets are a reliable and clean food source, subject to Canadian government food standards and regulations. Cricket breeders must therefore handle them while respecting the same hygienic conditions imposed for any other food production. In addition, the quality and potential of this food is one of the reasons why it has been recommended by the FAO for several years now.

How important is vitamin B12?

Vitamin B12, also called cobalamin, is an essential vitamin and, not being produced naturally by the body, this vitamin must therefore be supplied to us through our diet. In case of vitamin B12 deficiency, the following symptoms may appear: weakness, lack of energy and nausea. This deficiency can also lead to some forms of anemia and mood disorders, and in more severe cases, memory loss or even dementia. Vitamin B12 is an important contributor to the proper functioning of cells, including their growth and division, the balance of the nervous system and the formation of red blood cells to name just a few of its functions.

Can I be allergic to crickets?

A person allergic to shellfish and seafood may be allergic to cricket products because crickets are invertebrates just like shellfish. They therefore belong to the arthropod family, such as shrimps and lobsters, characterized in particular by their exoskeleton and their segmented body.

What is sustainable food?

According to a report published in 2010 by the FAO – Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations —, “Sustainable diets are diets with low environmental impact, which contribute to food and nutrition security as well as a healthy lifestyle for present and future generations. […] ”.
